Hello! I am Mariëlle and I live in a small town in the Netherlands, together with T and our two cats Oskar and Molly. I am a full-time vegetarian, part-time vegan, a PhD candidate in feminist theory and English literature, an aspiring yogini, and a university teacher. I am also working on a little side-career in academic editing (in English, not Dutch, my Dutch grammar is horrendously bad).
In January 2012, I decided to quit preparing meals that included meat and/or fish. I would still eat it when someone else prepared a non-vegetarian meal, but when it was my turn to cook, we had a vegetarian dinner.
In October 2012, I realised that the people in my environment were adjusting to my ‘new’ lifestyle better than I had expected, so I became a real, ‘proper’ vegetarian. I had also become a better cook and my friends, impressed by the in-numerous pictures I posted on Facebook, suggested that I started a blog. So, I did.
Although I definitely was interested in veganism, I never considered it as something that could become part of my own life. However, in January 2013, I watched both Forks over Knives and Vegucated. Quickly, and not so gradually, I began experimenting with vegan dishes and I am still doing that. I can’t remember the last time I cooked a non-vegan meal. O wait, it was last June. A friend came over and I was afraid to serve her a vegan dish… Well, those days are more or less over. Besides, most of my friends are no longer scared to have dinner at our house. On the contrary…
You can find me on Facebook and Pinterest and, quite recently, I’ve decided to take the plunge and start sharing my writing on Perpetual Brainwaves (and yes, it’s terrifying). I also recently started a shop on Etsy, where I sell yoga bags and wall decorations. Of course, if you have any questions you can also shoot me an e-mail at vegainvianen at gmail dot com!
